I was recently reading through one of the many helpful #SHRM18 conference pages on social media and someone asked the question, “Will it be ok that I forgot my business cards?” The responses varied but overwhelmingly the majority of #SHRM conference veterans shared, “I ordered extra and will end up leaving them in the hotel room.” Most readers recommended taking pictures of name tags but who wants to sort through all of those pictures?
Good news is that LinkedIn has recently came out with a new feature that most people have not heard about yet. They now allow users the ability to find other LinkedIn members that are nearby, using your mobile device.
According to LinkedIn, “This feature will provide you with the opportunities to network with other LinkedIn members by quickly finding and connecting with people around you at conferences, events, and more in your proximity.”
What a convenient time to try this out as 15,000+ HR professionals will gather in Chicago this week for SHRM’s 70th Annual Conference & Exposition at McCormick Place.
For security, you will need to opt-in to use this feature and can only be discoverable when you are on the Find Nearby page in the app.
To access the feature:
- Open your LinkedIn app on your Apple or Android device
- Choose My Network on the bottom of the app landing page
- Turn Find Nearby on located at the top of the app
Let’s connect while in Chicago. I will be blogging about my experiences throughout the week and can be followed on Twitter @andrewpmarcotte
